Over my Head (Cable Car): Over My Head (Cable Car) is about a fight that Isaac had with Caleb, who's nickname is Cable Car.
Over My Head (Cable Car) was inspired by Isaac Slades temporary estrangement from his brother: "It is about a fight I got in with my brother, Caleb. After he graduated high school, we drifted apart and really hadnt spoken in a long time. One day we both realized that we needed to fight it out. We fought it out, and hes one of my best friends today." Micah, Isaacs younger brother, was in both the unoffical and the Epic music video. Isaac paid Micah $150 to be in the video. Over My Head (Cable Car) used to be known just as Cable Car.
How to Save a Life: How to Save a Life is about a drug addicted teen.
All at Once: All At Once is about a guy Isaac knew that didnt know if he was in love.
Fall Away: N/A
Heaven Forbid: Heaven Forbid is about Joes sister
Look After You: Look After You was written by Isaac about his girlfriend (now wife) when she was living in Australia.
Hundred: N/A
Vienna: Vienna is about a relationship that Isaac knew wouldnt work out, even before it started.
Dead Wrong: Dead Wrong is about their friends thinking their dreams of making it big were silly.
Little House: Little House is about a cutter.
Trust Me: Trust Me was written when they were looking for a record label. ????? Trust Me was written when they first started because they didnt know who to 'trust' because they each told each other to 'trust me'.
Joe sings the vocals for Heaven Forbid.
They got the drum beat for Over My Head (Cable Car) when they were in a car when it was raining. Isaac heard it and recorded it on his cell phone. Then later, Ben started drumming it out.
Lyrics:
She Is [2004]
Do not get me wrong I cannot wait for you to come home
For now you're not here and I'm not there, it's like we're on our own
To figure it out, consider how to find a place to stand
Instead of walking away and instead of nowhere to land
This is going to break me clean in two This is going to bring me close to you
She is everything I need that I never knew I wanted
She is everything I want that I never knew I needed
It's all up in the air and we stand still to see what comes back down
I don't know where it is, I don't know when, but I want you around
When it falls into place with you and I, we go from if to when
Your side and mine are both behind it's indication
This is going to bring me clarity
This'll take the heart right out of me
She is everything I need that I never knew I wanted
She is everything I want that I never knew I needed
This is going to bring me to my knees
I just want to hold you close to me
She is everything I need that I never knew I wanted
She is everything I want that I never knew I needed
Over My Head (Cable Car) [2004]
I never knew
I never knew that everything was falling through
That everyone I knew was waiting on a queue
To turn and run when all I needed was the truth
But that's how it's got to be
It's coming down to nothing more than apathy
I'd rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who's still standing when it clears
Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
Let's rearrange
I wish you were a stranger I could disengage
Say that we agree and then never change
Soften a bit until we all just get along
But that's disregard
Find another friend and you discard
As you lose the argument in a cable car
Hanging above as the canyon comes between
Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
And suddenly I become a part of your past
I'm becoming the part that don't last
I'm losing you and its effortless
Without a sound we lose sight of the ground
In the throw around
Never thought that you wanted to bring it down
I won't let it go down till we torch it ourselves
Everyone knows I'm in
Over my head
With eight seconds left in overtime
She's on your mind
How To Save A Life [2004]
Step one you say we need to talk
He walks you say sit down it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
And you begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Let him know that you know best
Cause after all you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend
Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
All At Once [2005]
There are certain people you just keep coming back to
She is right in front of you
You begin to wonder could you find a better one
Compared to her now she's in question
And all at once the crowd begins to sing
Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same
Maybe you want her maybe you need her
Maybe you started to compare to someone not there
Looking for the right one you line up the world to find
Where no questions cross your mind
But she won't keep on waiting for you without a doubt
Much longer for you to sort it out
And all at once the crowd begins to sing
Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same
Maybe you want her maybe you need her
Maybe you started to compare to someone not there
Maybe you want it maybe you need it,
Maybe it's all you're running from,
Perfection will not come
And all at once the crowd begins to sing
Sometimes
We'd never know what's wrong without the pain
Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same
Maybe you want her maybe you need her
Maybe you've started to compare to someone not there
Maybe you want it maybe you need it
Maybe it's all you're running from
Perfection will not come
Maybe you want her maybe you need her
Maybe you had her maybe you lost her to another
To another
Fall Away [2004]
You swear you recall nothing at all
That could make you come back down
You made up your mind to leave it all behind
Now you're forced to fight it out
You fall away from your past
But it's following you
You left something undone, it's now your rerun
It's the one you can't erase
You should have made it right, so you wouldn't have to fight
To put a smile back on your face
You fall away from your past
But it's following you
You fall away
Something I've done that I can't outrun
Maybe you should wait maybe you should run
But there's something you've said that can't be undone
And you fall away from your past
But It's following you
You fall away
It's following you
Heaven Forbid [2004]
Twenty years it's breaking you down, now that you understand there's no one around.
Take a breath, just take a seat, your falling apart and tearing at the seams.
Heaven forbid you end up alone and don't know why
Hold on tight wait for tomorrow, you'll be alright
It's on your face, is it on your mind, would you care to build a house of your own.
How much longer, how long can you wait, It's like you wanted to go and give yourself away.
Heaven forbid you end up alone and don't know why
Hold on tight wait for tomorrow, you'll be alright
It feels good. Is that reason enough for you.
It feels good. Is that reason enough for you.
Heaven forbid you end up alone and don't know why
Hold on tight wait for tomorrow, you'll be alright
Heaven forbid you end up alone and don't know why
Hold on tight wait for tomorrow, you'll be alright
Out of this one
Don't know how to get you out of this one, don't know how to get you out of this one,
Don't know how to get you out of this one, don't know how to get you out of this one.
Look After You [2005]
If I don't say this now I will surely break
As I'm leaving the one I want to take
Forgive the urgency but hurry up and wait
My heart has started to separate
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Be my baby
Oh, oh, oh
I'll look after you
There now, steady love, so few come and don't go
Will you won't you, be the one I always know
When I'm losing my control, the city spins around
You're the only one who knows, you slow it down
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Be my baby
Oh, oh, oh
I'll look after you
If ever there was a doubt
My love she leans into me
This most assuredly counts
She says most assuredly
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Be my baby
I'll look after you
It's always have and never hold
You've begun to feel like home
What's mine is yours to leave or take
What's mine is yours to make your own
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Be my baby
Oh, oh, oh
Hundred [2003]
The how I can't recall
But I'm staring at what once was the wall
Separating east and west
Now they meet amidst the broad daylight
So this is where you are, and this is where I am
Somewhere between unsure and a hundred
It's hard I must confess
I'm banking on the rest to clear away
Cause we have spoken everything
Everything short of I love you
You right where you are, from right where I am
Somewhere between unsure and a hundred
And who's to say it's wrong
And who's to say that it's not right
Where we should be for now
So this is where you are, and this is where I am
So this is where you are, and this is where I've been
Somewhere between unsure and a hundred
Vienna [2002]
The day's last one-way ticket train pulls in
We smile for the casual closure capturing
There goes the downpour
Here goes my fare thee well
There's really no way to reach me
'Cause I'm already gone
Only so many words that we can say
Spoken upon long-distance melody
This is my hello
This is my goodness
There's really no way to reach me
'Cause I'm already gone
Maybe in five or ten yours and mine will meet again
Straighten this whole thing out
Maybe then honesty need not be feared as a friend or an enemy
This is the distance
And this is my game face
There's really no way to reach me
'Cause I'm already gone
So this is your maverick
This is Vienna
Dead Wrong [2004]
If only I knew what I know
I'd make it a point to say so
To everyone that got me here
And everyone that made it
Clear I was dead wrong all along
You said it for my sake
That I would not lose my way
When I was astray
I'm doing the best that I could
Trying my best to be understood
Maybe I'm changing slowly
I'd get out turn around if only I
Knew I was dead wrong all along
You said it for my sake
As if I would lose my way
When I was dead wrong all along
Mine is not a new story
But it is for me
So I was dead wrong all along
You said it for my sake
You thought I'd lost my way
When I was dead wrong all along
You said it for my sake
That I would not lose my way
Did I really lose my way
Or are you afraid
Little House [2004]
She doesn't look, she doesn't see
Opens up for nobody
Figures out, she figures out
Narrow line, she can't decide
Everything short of suicide
Never hurts, nearly works
Something is scratching its way out
Something you want to forget about
A part of you that'll never show
You're the only one that'll ever know
Take it back when it all began
Take your time, would you understand
What it's all about
Something is scratching its way out
Something you want to forget about
No one expects you to get up
All on your own with no one around
Trust Me [2005]
Looking for something I've never seen
Alone and I'm in between
The place that I'm from and the place that I'm in
A city I never been
I found a friend or should I say a foe
Said just a few things you should know
We don't want you to see we come and we go
Here today, gone tomorrow
We're only taking turns
Holding this world
It's how it's always been
When you're older you will understand
If I say who I know it just goes to show
You need me less than I need you
Take it from me we don't give sympathy
You can trust me trust nobody
But I said you and me we don't have honesty
The things we don't want to speak
I'll try to get out but I never will
Traffic is perfectly still
We're only taking turns
Holding this world
It's how it's always been
When you're older you will understand
And then again maybe you don't
And then again maybe you won't
When you're older you might understand
When you're older you might understand

The Fray started in spring, 2002.
Isaac Slade (vocals, piano, guitar), Benjamin Wysocki (drums) and David Welsh (lead guitar) were in a band together called Ember. They apparently 'sucked' so they broke up. Later in life Isaac and Joe King (guitar, vocals) ran into each other at a Guitar Center. Isaac and Joe were former schoolmates but never really talked, Joe was the 'jock' and Isaac was the 'nerd'.
Soon after running into each other, they became a two man band and started writing and instrumenting songs together.
Joe added Zach Johnson on drums and Caleb Slade (Isaacs younger brother) on bass. A while later, Zach left the band to attend an acting school in New York. Joe and Isaac talk it over and decided to 'kick Caleb out' of the band because he wasn't really helping the band move forward, resulting a rift in Isaac and Calebs relationship. Isaac then wrote Over My Head (Cable Car) which is about Caleb [Read more about this on the 'Song Facts' page.] Dan Battenhouse took Calebs place as bass.
Ben Wysocki, a former band mate of Isaac/Dave , then became the drummer for The Fray. Later, Dave Welsh, who was another former band mate of Isaac/ Ben, joined as lead guitarist completing the official line-up for the band. Soon after they started playing shows in the Denver area.
Their popularity grew quickly and their first demo recordings became local radio faves and the band was voted Best New Band by Denver's Westword Magazine. Over My Head (Cable Car) became KTCLs top 30 most played song of 2004 in just 4 months making it the bands first hit single.
December 17th, 2004 while playing at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado, The Fray signed the dotted line and signed onto Epic Records.
Jimmy Stofer took Dan Battenhouse's place as bassist. In March, 2007 Jimmy left to let another bassist experience The Fray, Dan Lavery took the spot. In March, 2009 Jeremy McCoy became the new bassist.
Jeffery Linsenmaier plays an assortment of instruments for the band.
The Frays name was picked from a suggestion bowl from Caleb Slades, Isaacs little brothers, graduation party.
They liked the name and stuck with it. The 'deep' meaning to the name is about 'the battle of the everyday life.'
Rasa-rasanya memang begitu. Bahagialah mereka yang mati muda ( Soe Hok Gie 1942 – 1969 ).
